She's Ours!
This place is ours! Signed, sealed, delivered.
We have her booked for the nights of Sep 10-12.
Check-in has to be after 3p.m. on Thurs. and check-out by 10a.m. on Sunday.
The cheapest Hotel Telluride room, which would only sleep 4 of us (if we snuggled) was $279, and that's before taxes. We have this baby for a mere $150/night and she sleeps 10! PARTY TIME!

Owls and Lies
For several days I have spent my spare time googling owl images for Anika. The other morning she got in bed with me at 5:30. When this happens I doze in and out (or try to) while she chats my ear off, gives me kisses, plays with my earrings, and crams her feet into my face. She kept hearing a "whoo whoo" out the window. She said it was "scary" and asked what it was. I knew it sounded like a dove but knowing she knew already what an owl was I figured I'd take the easy way out and tell her it was an owl, eliminating (I thought) any further questions.
Big msitake!
She now sleeps, eats, talks all owl, all the time. She makes the "whoo whoo" constantly and keeps wanting to go see it outside. It finally dawned on me that I am, in essence, lying to my daughter. I keep telling her it went bye bye but she wants to know where. I decided it flew up into the trees and now she keeps talking about it up in the trees. She says the owl is "nice and funny and happy". I'm sure he is.
In all of my googling owls for Anika I found this happy fellow. I haven't been one for baby animals since book order posters but this one really got my goat. I can see why Anika is so attatched. Isn't he cute? Maybe I'll find her a stuffed one.

I have been wondering how I will afford the Hotel Telluride or any hotel, for that matter. Well, why don't we rent a house? It might be the best option because summer is the OFF season so when the rental says 100-400/nt. that means summer is the lower end. We are in business. Check out the Telluride rentals here.
Air! I Need Air!
First, the bad news: Cutoff times have been slimmed down again this year. That means if I don't want to get disqualified, I have to be 7 minutes faster to Upper Camp Bird than in 2005! What? I think I can. I think I can.
Next, the good news: My driving buddy (the person I followed to help me set a good pace) was a middle-aged man remarkably resembling Magnum P.I. who was wearing sweat pants with the elastic on the ankles and a pair of gym socks on his hands. (bring gloves, it's cold!) My point? Not everyone running this race is straight from the Patagonia catalog. There are plenty of Moms like me, younger kids, old guys, you name it.
It is totally within range for all of us if we train hard this summer! SO- good luck to you all. I can't wait to get on the bus with you guys at 4a.m. and ride to Ouray. It will be such a great adventure. Let the fun begin!
More bad news: There's no air up there. When you summit you will feel like you are trying to breathe through a narrow coffee straw!
More good news: The run downhill is the biggest blast I've ever had! The air gets thicker, runner high kicks in, you know the worst is over. It was like a roller coaster and worth all the hard work!
